| As an artist I am painting
common things that I love, so I paint Mississippi. I
care about our ever-changing common scenery of Mississippi
and the memories I have from early childhood in north
Mississippi on a small rural farm… and summer
visits to the Delta to stay with my grandparents at
the end of cotton rows in their shotgun house. As a
child I spent many hours in the fields and woods mesmerized
by small things that captured my artist’s heart
and eye. Each blade of grass and lonely path that show
up in my work are memories of life in the south. I cannot
remember a time that I did not paint or draw. I am extremely
blessed to have people tell me that my work feels authentic
to them. My goal is to lead the viewer into my world
in Mississippi and the South. I love modern Mississippi
and the other parts of the south too, and embrace the
social and cultural changes that have taken us to this
place in time. My painting is heart-felt and honest.
I continue to study and grow as an artist to have art
with quality, integrity and soul. I want simply to record
the beloved places and scenery of the south and allow
the viewers to feel my work and to say silently to themselves….
“ I know this place.”
