I am a Tennessee based artist and I have been creating and studying art since I was very young. Drawing and painting, as a way of expression and creativity, have always been my passion.
Inspiration for a piece can come in an instant and usually comes from the beauty of nature. Natural elements such as a bright colored flower, autumn leaves, the moon and stars or a vibrant sky are just a few examples. These elements combined with birds and other animals, structures, such as barns, houses and churches and sometimes human figures are the subject of a long running series called
"Landscapes". Ultimately, what I am really doing with all of these elements is trying to create an environment within the piece that is intriguing and evokes a sense of wonder.
I intend for the subject matter to be identifiable. However, I am bored with "proper" proportions and color choices. This is evident throughout my art work. For example, you may see a flower, that in comparison to a church, is as big as a tree. I feel that art and imagination do not have limits and in my own opinion, the unexpected is what makes a piece of art interesting. My work is always evolving and I hope that it is always maturing. If it didn't, then I would become uninspired and indifferent and I believe that it would easily show in my work.
Almost all of my work is created using mixed media; including acrylic paint, oil based washes, pencil, texture mediums, collected papers, dried flowers and plants and beeswax on canvas. |
